Wait — what's a Level 2 screening? +

A Level 2 screening is a state and national fingerprint-based background check required in Florida for people who work with vulnerable populations — children, older adults, and individuals with disabilities.

It typically includes:

  • Fingerprinting
  • A search of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) database
  • A search of the FBI criminal database
  • Checks against state and federal abuse registries (depending on the profession)
  • Review of certain disqualifying criminal offenses

Who needs it?

People working in home health agencies and nurse registries, assisted living facilities, group homes, child care centers, schools, some hospital roles, and providers serving individuals through the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD).
